November 18, 2009, Letter from CUSD Recall Committee to
Orange County Committee on School District Organization
- The purpose of this letter is to urge the members of
the Orange County Committee on School District
Organization (“Committee”) to reconsider and rescind
their September 30, 2009 decision and to reset the
ballot initiative to change the method of voting in the
Capistrano Unified School District (“CUSD”) for the
November 2, 2010 general election for the following
reasons:
March 19, 2009, Julie Hatchel, Chief Communications
Officer, CUSD - At its Board Meeting on March 9, 2009
the Capistrano Unified School District Trustees voted
unanimously to terminate the contract of Superintendent
A. Woodrow Carter for a material breach. The Board of
Trustees has released its final decision today,
specifying charges which led to this decision.
Documents relative to the charges are a matter of
public record and can be requested through the
Communications Department of the Capistrano Unified
School District.
March 9, 2009, Ellen Addonizio, Board President, CUSD -
Statement read at district board meeting on March 9,
2009 - The Capistrano Unified School District has been
forced to make budgetary cuts over the last few years.
This has come with unpleasant consequences. Educational
opportunities and support programs considered important
have had to be scaled back or eliminated. Sadly, we
have been deprived of the funding necessary to continue
at our already reduced funding levels.
January 10, 2009, Julie Hatchel, Chief Communications
Officer, CUSD - As previously reported, the Board of
Trustees of the Capistrano Unified School District, at
its meeting on January 6, 2009, took action to place
Superintendent, A. Woodrow Carter, on paid
administrative leave. The District and several members
of the Board of Trustees have received questions as to
why this action was taken.
