Teacher Irony
March 26, 2009
John Jaeger, The Orange County Register
Teachers’ unions vehemently
oppose merit pay increases, claiming that it is impossible to
evaluate teachers. Then why do we read about Teachers of the Year
being recognized for outstanding performance if, as the unions say,
their performance cannot be evaluated [“Anaheim union recognizes
three Teachers of the Year,” local, March 20]? How bitterly ironic
it is that these consummate evaluators, who get raises based on
evaluations, reject efforts to be evaluated.
'Pass the Popcorn'
January 16, 2009
John Jaeger, The Capistrano Dispatch
Just last month on these
very pages, I commented on yet another scandal here in Capo Valley.
(“And a thought from the north,” Dec 12 - 18) What I said then was,
“The Capistrano Unified School District just can’t seem to stay out
of the news, and not in a good way either.” By golly, along comes
the new headline story this month about Superintendent A. Woodrow
Carter being put on “paid leave”…Pass the popcorn. Did I miss
anything, and what’s next? You might as well laugh at this theater
of the incompetent. Crying isn’t going to help it.
