Zero for the future of
California”
John & Ken Interview our Chairman, Tony Beall, Committee to Reform CUSD -- April 23, 2010
This strike is not about the union contract. It is all about politics -- the union's desire to take over control of the board in November. The California Teachers Union has made CUSD a test case -- ground zero for the future of California. If the union loses here in CUSD again, they know other districts from across California and beyond will follow the lead of the Reform Trustees in CUSD. That is why the union has brought in the big guns from the CTA. That is why the union has for the past two years commenced a multi-pronged attack against the Reform Board. The union is:
1. Backing an initiative for the Nov 2010 ballot to take 6 of 7 votes away from every CUSD voter;
2. Backing the unjust recall campaign to remove two Reform Trustees;
3. Preparing to run a slate of five pro-union candidates in the November election; and
4. Striking in the middle of the current school year to further destabilize the district and cause "organized chaos" in an effort to turn voters against the Board.

Bill Handel analyzes his interview with our Chairman, Tony Beall, Committee to Reform CUSD -- April 23, 2010
Chairman Tony Beall debunks some union propaganda and explains to Bill Handel how the CTA and local teachers union have no legitimate basis to strike in the midst of the nation’s greatest economic crisis when millions in the private sector have lost their jobs or had their pay slashed by more than 30%.What is the union’s real agenda?
This strike is not about the union contract. It is all about politics -- the union's desire to take over control of the board in November. If the union loses here in CUSD again, they know other districts from across California and beyond will follow the lead of the Reform Trustees in CUSD. Bill Handel analyzes his interview with our Chairman, Tony Beall, Committee to Reform CUSD
"I can’t emphasize how important this story is. This is our economy – a microcosm of where we are going with our views towards public sector unions, and, in many cases, how out of touch people in those public sector unions are…This story is being followed all across the country. The reason this story is so important is because there are school districts and unions all across the country looking at this as a litmus test – to see if a school board or a union is going to prevail … I think Tony Beall, who talked to us earlier is correct. I think it’s all a union power play more than anything else, and there is no legitimate basis for this strike!” -- Bill Handel, April 21, 2010

Commentary on Public Employee Unions and Capo Unifird Strike
By John & Ken KFI AM-640
"All the workers in the state, all the teachers want MORE -- more money, better health benefits, fatter pensions! None of these people care about the state. What they care about is feeding the unions!"
-- John & Ken, April 22, 2010
"The Capistrano Unified school strike is emblematic of things that may go all over the state eventually … or the country. There are many school districts that have huge deficits and a lot of them are watching Capistrano to see whether the teachers or the school board wins in this battle."
-- John & Ken, April 26, 2010

Commentary on CUSD Teacher Union Strike
By Bill Handel, KFI AM-640
"The way I feel about unions now … I hope teachers walk out! There are teachers unemployed all over the State. I’d say, if you’re willing to sign a contract with us for three years at the 10.1 reduced contract price – then we’ll pay for your moving expenses and you’re on your way. You’ve got a job teaching AND THE STRIKERS ARE GONE!”
-- Bill Handel, KFI AM-640, April 21, 2010
"It’s insane! I would decertify every union and just throw them all out at this point…throw them all out. The days of the “necessary” unions are SO gone, are SO history. Now unions just get in the way and make it impossible to actually function.” -- Bill Handel, KFI AM-640, April 21, 2010
"I’m of the opinion that, when there is a pay cut – there is a pay cut! When I go to my staff and tell them we’re going to cut salaries by 10% because we are losing money, no one comes back and says, “I really want to negotiate this.” Because, then what happens is, I say, “You can negotiate at the unemployment office – it’s been a real pleasure!”
-- Bill Handel, KFI AM-640, April 22, 2010
"This is a huge story. Normally a strike wouldn’t be this big a deal. But considering it’s a school district and the trouble our State is having with schools…this story is far bigger than a local strike … The world has changed. The teachers are still thinking ... “old school” – times have changed and no one is getting paid the amounts they used to. I have all kinds of questions. I’m having a real hard time understanding the teachers’ positions – on a whole series of levels!”
-- Bill Handel, KFI AM-640, April 22, 2010
