An Appeal From Anna Bryson

Anna Bryson
Candidate for Trustee Area 4
Capistrano Unified School District
The ballot for the upcoming November elections will be crowded with important choices. If you are a taxpayer with children or grandchildren in the Capistrano Unified School District (CUSD), if you believe we must provide the best possible public education possible within our means, and if you agree that a well-educated workforce will benefit everyone in our area, I wanted to make sure you are aware of a key race.
I’m running for re-election to the CUSD Board of Education, where I’ve served for the past four years as trustee and president. During that time, we boosted academic achievement to the highest level in the state among large districts, we introduced many new programs that included special training for teachers at schools that needed to improve performance, and we brought a financial budget that was running at a deficit back into balance.
Here in South
Orange County, we now need to make a critical
decision with regard to public education. Do our
schools exist to serve the needs of students, or to
serve the needs of the teachers’ union? The union
wants more of the available money, which means less
would go for the actual education of our children,
and a significant portion of the spending that
supports my opponent’s campaign is coming from union
sources. We’ve seen this story play out time and
again. Public-employee unions spend lavishly to elect
candidates who then do the unions’ bidding once they
assume office. Does this kind of union power grab
serve the best interests of the students, parents,
and taxpayers of our district? My answer is an
emphatic “No!” I want the available money spent on
our children!
If you agree, I urge you to support the “ABC” reform slate of Addonizio, Bryson, and Christensen, to vote “No” on the recall of two of my fellow reform-board trustees, and to vote “No” on Measure H, a union-backed initiative that would change the way school board trustees are elected and increase union influence. More information about me and what I stand for is available at www.annabryson.us. Please join me in voting in the upcoming elections. The issues and principles in play are too important to be decided without you.
Sincerely,
Anna Bryson
